DAVAO ORIENTAL — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Davao Oriental, in close coordination with SOU–DAVOR, HSRB 033, CGSS Mati, and CGSS Dahican, successfully conducted a life-saving medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) for a crew member of MV Cape Pride early Thursday morning, December 12, 2025.

The crew member was reportedly suffering from severe dizziness, difficulty in breathing, and intermittent vomiting with traces of blood while the vessel was en route near Pujada Island, Mati City. Upon receiving an urgent MEDEVAC request from Benline Davao at 1915H on December 11, the station immediately activated its response plan, coordinating closely with the Philippine Ports Authority and the vessel’s agent to facilitate the extraction.
By 0530H the following day, the MEDEVAC team departed Mati Port aboard F/V DJB6, reaching the rendezvous point 2.7 nautical miles east of Pujada Island. The responders boarded MV Cape Pride at 0802H and safely transferred the patient to the rescue vessel. At 0810H, the patient was returned to Mati Port and promptly transported to Metro Davao Medical and Research Center for immediate treatment.
This successful operation underscores the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and rapid response of the Philippine Coast Guard and its partner units in safeguarding lives at sea. Every MEDEVAC mission reflects the PCG’s enduring commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian assistance, ensuring that no call for help goes unanswered.
“The Philippine Coast Guard is a steadfast guardian of life and safety at sea,” the station said, highlighting the operation as a testament to their core mandate of protecting mariners and upholding maritime security.
