DAVAO CITY — What began as another ordinary workday for a young couple striving to provide a better future for their family ended in unimaginable tragedy after they were killed in a horrific multi-motorcycle collision allegedly linked to illegal drag racing along the Davao-Bukidnon Road in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City, in the early hours of Monday, August 3.
The victims were identified as Angelou M. Isidro, a call center agent, and her live-in partner, Lovely Kim E. Cadayona, a 27-year-old Foodpanda delivery rider. Both were originally from Mati City, Davao Oriental, but had been working in Davao City in pursuit of a better life for their young family.
Their sudden deaths have left behind not only grieving relatives but also their young child, who is now under the care of Angelou’s mother and sister.
The heartbreaking loss has sparked an outpouring of grief online, as family members and friends mourned two hardworking parents whose lives were cut short while simply trying to earn a living.
Innocent Victims
According to the initial investigation by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the fatal collision occurred at around 2:50 a.m. along the Davao-Bukidnon Road near a gasoline station in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño.
Police said Lovely was driving their motorcycle with Angelou riding as his passenger when they became involved in a chain-reaction collision involving four motorcycles.
Initial findings revealed that three motorcycles were traveling northbound while another was heading southbound. Investigators said a Suzuki motorcycle rear-ended the motorcycle in front of it, triggering a violent chain of impacts that eventually sent detached debris—including the Suzuki’s front wheel—into the path of another motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact proved fatal for Lovely and Angelou, who were declared dead at the scene by responders from the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC).
One rider sustained injuries and was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), while another motorcycle rider reportedly fled the scene and remains the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
Authorities have yet to officially determine whether illegal drag racing directly caused the collision, although earlier witness accounts and initial reports alleged that some of the motorcycles involved had been engaged in “waswas” or illegal street racing moments before the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Working Day and Night for Their Family
For relatives, the tragedy is even more painful knowing the sacrifices the couple made every day.
In an emotional Facebook appeal, Angelou’s cousin, Dhyrille Lian, described the couple as hardworking parents who dedicated themselves to supporting their family.
Lovely reportedly worked as a Foodpanda delivery rider, often beginning his deliveries as early as 3:00 a.m., while Angelou worked long hours as a call center agent.
“They were both hardworking individuals who worked in Davao City to provide for their family,” the family wrote.
Instead of returning home after another day’s work, the couple never made it back.
A Child Left Without Both Parents
Perhaps the most heartbreaking consequence of the tragedy is the child they left behind.
In a single tragic moment, the young boy or girl lost both parents.
Family members say the child is now under the care of Angelou’s mother and sister, who are also coping with overwhelming grief while facing the financial burden of funeral expenses and the responsibility of raising the orphaned child.
The family’s online appeal has since drawn widespread sympathy from netizens, many expressing heartbreak over how an innocent child now has to grow up without either parent.

As they struggle through one of the most painful moments of their lives, relatives are appealing for financial assistance to help cover funeral costs, outstanding expenses, and the future needs of the couple’s child.
“Any financial assistance, no matter how small, will greatly help,” the family said.
They added that even sharing their appeal or offering prayers would mean a great deal during this difficult time.
Renewed Calls Against Illegal Drag Racing
Beyond seeking assistance, the grieving family also hopes the tragedy will serve as a wake-up call against illegal drag racing and reckless driving on public roads.
“What may seem like a thrill to some can put innocent people at serious risk,” the family wrote.
“Angel and Lovely were simply trying to work and provide for their family. One reckless decision can take away lives and leave an entire family suffering. Please remember that everyone on the road has loved ones waiting for them to come home.”
Their message has resonated with thousands online, renewing calls for stricter enforcement against illegal street racing and reckless driving, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when such activities are frequently reported.
Police Continue Investigation
The Davao City Police Office, through Baliok Police Station, continues to gather CCTV footage, interview witnesses, and identify all individuals involved in the collision.
Authorities are also urging the motorcycle rider who fled the scene to voluntarily surrender and cooperate with investigators.
Police have assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deadly crash and determine whether criminal charges will be filed against those found responsible.
As investigators work to uncover the truth, the deaths of Angelou Isidro and Lovely Kim Cadayona have become more than just another traffic statistic—they are a painful reminder that behind every reckless act on the road are innocent lives, shattered dreams, and families forever changed.
