A 35-year-old man sustained injuries after he was allegedly attacked with a bladed weapon by his drinking companion during a drinking session in Barangay Dagat Kidavao, Valencia City, Bukidnon, on Monday night, August 3, 2026.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 9:20 p.m., according to initial police reports.

Authorities said the 49-year-old suspect was immediately turned over to the Valencia City Police Station (CPS) after being apprehended by members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) with the assistance of the village captain shortly after the attack.

Based on the investigation, both the victim and the suspect had been drinking inside the suspect’s residence before the violence erupted. An 18-year-old woman who witnessed the incident told police that the victim was about to serve food when the suspect, allegedly intoxicated, suddenly became enraged.

The suspect reportedly grabbed a bladed weapon and attempted to hack the victim twice, striking him on the left elbow and the left side of his forehead.

Despite the injuries, the victim survived the attack.

The witness immediately sought help from the barangay captain, prompting BPAT personnel to respond swiftly. The suspect was arrested at the scene without further incident, while the bladed weapon believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and taken into police custody as evidence.

The suspect is currently being held at the Valencia City Police Station pending the filing of appropriate criminal charges.

Police continue to investigate the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the violent altercation. Authorities also reminded the public of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, noting that intoxication often contributes to violent crimes and preventable injuries.
