A young man from Barangay Calube, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur died after he was bitten by a snake while walking along a village road, prompting a renewed call for residents to stay vigilant, especially in areas where wildlife encounters are common.
The victim, identified only as Jerome, was reportedly walking with companions when he accidentally stepped on the snake, causing it to strike and bite him on the leg. His companions immediately rushed him home to administer traditional first aid, but the venom spread rapidly through his body.
He was later brought for medical assistance but was declared dead before reaching the hospital.
The snake was eventually killed by Jerome’s companions following the incident.
Authorities and local residents expressed their condolences and warned the public to stay watchful, especially during dry months when snakes often move closer to pathways and residential areas in search of food and cooler ground.
