Parang, Maguindanao del Norte – Police authorities from the Parang Municipal Police Station (MPS), under the operational supervision of the Maguindanao del Norte Provincial Police Office (PPO), swiftly responded to a report of a suspected explosive found within the Parang Municipal Hall compound in Barangay Poblacion 1 at around 3:21 PM on October 17, 2025.

The incident was reported by a local government employee after a backhoe operator accidentally unearthed the suspected explosive during excavation work. Responding personnel from Parang MPS, along with the 1401st Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB14) and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, immediately proceeded to the area to assess the situation.

Upon examination, the EOD team identified the recovered item as one (1) piece of an 81mm high-explosive (HE) mortar round without a fuse and already corroded. The explosive was safely recovered and is now under the custody of the PNP EOD for further examination and safekeeping.

PCOL Victor G. Rito, Provincial Director of Maguindanao del Norte PPO, commended the quick response and coordination of Parang MPS and its supporting units. He emphasized that their prompt action ensured the safety of government employees and nearby residents.

He also urged the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious items or activities to the authorities to prevent possible incidents. “Through the vigilance of our people and the dedication of our police personnel, we continue to keep our communities safe,” PCOL Rito said.

Guided by his slogan, “Sa Maguindanao del Norte, Safe ka RITO,” he reaffirmed the Philippine National Police’s commitment to the vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”
