ZAMBOANGA CITY — Laughter, cheers, and a wave of nostalgia swept through the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Divisoria as the first-ever “Juego de Antes” brought back the simple joys of traditional Filipino games during the Hermosa Festival 2025 celebration on October 4–5.

The two-day event, spearheaded by Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso, highlighted the beauty of community and play as Zamboangueños from various barangays gathered to relive the games that once filled their childhood streets and schoolyards.
“Quiere yo aprende maga bata el juego de antes, poreso ta hace kita bira con este,” Olaso said during the opening, expressing his desire for children to rediscover the fun of outdoor games and lessen their dependence on gadgets. The mayor also thanked barangay officials for their active participation, announcing that Juego de Antes will now be a regular feature of the annual Hermosa Festival.
Representatives from Culianan, Divisoria, Boalan, Guiwan, Victoria, and Tolosa showcased their energy and teamwork in friendly competitions featuring classic Filipino pastimes such as kadang-kadang, tumbahan lata, shatong, sack race, cuhigan puerco (with male, female, and 12-under categories), and palo sebo. Each game reflected the city’s strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among players of all ages.
Adding rhythm and color to the festivities, MCLL Divisoria High School performed an energetic intermission number that kept the crowd’s spirits high.
The fun continued the following day, October 5, at the Putik–Lunzuran Road, where the excitement ramped up with thrilling races — carabao, human, pedicab, and habal-habal — drawing cheers and laughter from spectators.
Through Juego de Antes, the Hermosa Festival not only celebrates Zamboanga City’s vibrant culture but also revives a timeless connection to the past — reminding everyone that true joy can still be found in the simple act of play and togetherness.
