SAN PABLO, Zamboanga del Sur — A birthday celebration turned bloody after a 55-year-old farmer was hacked following a heated argument in Barangay Poblacion, San Pablo, on the evening of October 2, 2025.
Police identified the victim as Cerilo, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, who is now confined in a hospital after sustaining hack wounds during the incident at Purok Roseville around 6:35 p.m.
According to initial police investigation, the altercation erupted when the suspect, identified as Esperejun, 45, allegedly took a speaker purchased by the victim. The argument quickly escalated, leading the suspect to hack Cerilo with a bladed weapon.
Responding authorities arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. He is now detained at the municipal police station and will face charges of frustrated homicide.
Authorities reminded the public to avoid violence and resolve disputes peacefully, especially during social gatherings, to prevent similar tragedies.
