DINAS, Zamboanga del Sur — A pregnant woman was brutally shot dead on Wednesday night, October 2, in Barangay Ludiong, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur, after allegedly confronting a neighbor about his involvement in illegal drugs.

The victim, identified as Sherylle, a farmer and resident of Barangay Ludiong, was cooking dinner around 8:20 p.m. when the suspect, Rolando, suddenly opened fire, fatally hitting her. Sherylle, who was several months pregnant, died instantly.

Initial police investigation revealed that prior to the attack, the suspect had been drinking with his father, his brother, the victim’s live-in partner, and the victim’s father. A heated altercation erupted after Sherylle reprimanded Rolando, urging him to stop his drug use. Enraged, the suspect allegedly grabbed a firearm and shot her.

Rolando, a resident of Barangay Sugbay Uno, Dimataling, immediately fled the scene and remains at large as of this writing. Authorities have launched a manhunt to track down the suspect.

The community has been left in shock and mourning, as neighbors described the killing as “senseless and merciless.” The tragedy has also sparked renewed calls for stronger measures against the proliferation of illegal drugs in rural areas, which continue to tear families and communities apart.

Police in Dinas assured the public that justice will be pursued for Sherylle and her unborn child.
