Tupi, South Cotabato — The Philippine Army’s 38th Infantry (We Clear) Battalion successfully facilitated a peace mediation between the Lacay and Alab families of Barangay Magsaysay, Polomolok, South Cotabato on September 17, 2025, at the battalion headquarters in Barangay Kablon, Tupi.

The reconciliation effort was presided over by Brigadier General Omar V. Orozco, Commander of the 1st Mechanized (Maaasahan) Brigade, Armor Division, Philippine Army, who emphasized the importance of reconciliation, unity, and collective commitment to peace.

As part of the settlement, the families turned over several firearms and ammunition to authorities, including two M16 rifles with loaded magazines, one M79 grenade launcher with an M203 round, and a caliber .45 pistol.

Local officials and community leaders also participated in the mediation, among them Polomolok Mayor Bernie D. Palencia, Councilor Billy Bert C. Baitus, Chairman of the Committee on Peace and Order and Public Safety, Datu Ambas S. Cartil Sr. of the Muslim Council of Elders, Ustadz Salahudin Maguiguilid, and representatives of the South Cotabato Police Provincial Office and Polomolok Municipal Police Station. Barangay Magsaysay Chairman Emmanuel Labrador was also present.

Lieutenant Colonel Erwin E. Felongco, Commanding Officer of the 38th Infantry Battalion, underscored that the initiative reflects the Army’s continuing efforts to resolve conflicts and foster lasting peace in South Cotabato through collaboration with local leaders and stakeholders.

The Philippine Army reaffirmed its mission “to serve the people and secure the land,” noting that beyond ensuring security, it remains committed to building unity and supporting progress in communities across the country.
