Davao City — A barangay tanod’s vigilance led to the discovery of over ₱1.2 million worth of suspected marijuana in Barangay 8-A, Davao City early Saturday morning.

Authorities identified the tanod only as “Arnel,” 48, who found an abandoned bag along Bypass Road in Purok 7 around 5:30 a.m. on September 28. Upon inspection, he discovered one brick of suspected marijuana wrapped in cling film and seven smaller Ziploc sachets containing dried marijuana leaves.

The barangay official immediately reported the discovery to the barangay administrator and subsequently turned over the confiscated items to police operatives. A weighing scale was also found inside the bag, indicating possible use for illegal drug distribution.

Police estimates placed the total street value of the seized drugs at ₱1,278,720. The recovered evidence has been forwarded to the Davao City Forensic Unit for laboratory examination.

Authorities are conducting further investigation to determine the source of the contraband and identify those responsible for abandoning it.
