BUNAWAN, Davao City – Authorities confiscated over P1.5 million worth of suspected marijuana leaves after a mother surrendered her 20-year-old son to the police on Sunday morning, August 10.

According to the Bunawan Police Station, the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. in Purok 6-A, Aplaya, Bunawan. The mother, alias Alice, 42, together with her common-law partner, called the police to report suspicious behavior from her son, a construction worker known as alias Ariel.

She told investigators she noticed her son acting unusually and, upon checking his belongings, discovered a bag containing several marijuana leaves wrapped in transparent cellophane.

Responding officers confirmed the report and seized approximately 1,000 grams of suspected dried marijuana leaves, including a block of plastic-wrapped marijuana inside the bag. Authorities estimate the confiscated drugs’ value at around P1.5 million.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody. Police are now preparing charges against him for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
