DAVAO CITY – A 59-year-old midwife lost her life after being run over by a trailer truck while crossing the highway around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2025, at Km. 14, Panacan, in front of a fast-food chain.
The victim, identified by authorities as Gilda (not her real name), a resident of Barangay Ilang, sustained fatal head injuries after being struck and subsequently run over by the truck.
Based on police investigation, the midwife was crossing the western portion of the Daang Maharlika Highway when she was hit by the northbound truck. The vehicle was driven by a 27-year-old man from Barangay Morales, Koronadal City, who is now in police custody.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, police reminded the public to exercise extreme caution when crossing major roads, especially where large trucks are present, noting that such vehicles have significant blind spots that can easily cause accidents.
