Upi, Maguindanao del Norte – The Upi Municipal Gymnasium came alive with passion and purpose on August 15, 2025, as the municipality’s youth gathered for the much-anticipated Linggo ng Kabataan (LNK) 2025, carrying the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.”

S

pearheaded by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in partnership with the Local Youth Development Office, the event showcased the collective strength of young leaders, student councils, organizations, and advocates united by a common goal: to shape a better, more sustainable future.

But the day’s most inspiring moment came when Mr. Nathan Wayne F. Ariston, a proud son of Upi, took the stage. From the halls of the Philippine Science High School to graduating cum laude at Yale University with degrees in Physics and Mathematics, Ariston’s journey embodies the boundless possibilities that education, perseverance, and community support can unlock.

In his keynote address, Ariston reminded the youth that greatness is not defined by where one starts, but by the courage to dream and the discipline to pursue it. “Self-belief, discipline, hard work, and perseverance guided me,” he shared, while humbly acknowledging the blessings and opportunities that opened doors along his path. His story resonated deeply, proving that a Kabataang Upian can stand on the global stage and still remain rooted in community pride.

Adding to the empowering atmosphere, Mayor Ma. Rona Cristina A. Piang-Flores reaffirmed her steadfast support for the youth. “I commit to supporting your programs, amplifying your voices, and creating more spaces where youth can lead, decide, and innovate,” she underscored, affirming the local government’s role in nurturing young leaders.

More than just a celebration, LNK 2025 became a beacon of hope and inspiration—a testament to the transformative power of the youth. It reminded everyone that when given the opportunity, young people are not just participants in progress, but pioneers of lasting change.

As the event drew to a close, the message was clear: the future of Upi—and of the nation—rests securely in the hands of empowered youth ready to dream bigger, aim higher, and lead with purpose.
