ZAMBOANGA CITY – A viral video showing a commotion in Barangay Campo Islam on Saturday, July 19, 2025, led to the swift arrest of a male suspect, who was later found in possession of illegal drugs, authorities confirmed.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Zamboanga City Police Station 11 (ZCPS11) received a report from a concerned citizen about an armed man causing a disturbance in the said barangay. In less than five minutes, the station’s Chicago Runner Team responded to the scene and confronted the suspect, who was reportedly holding a bolo.

According to ZCPS11, the man refused to be frisked and actively resisted arrest, escalating the situation. However, officers exercised maximum tolerance and followed standard police procedures to de-escalate the tension. The suspect was eventually subdued and brought under police custody.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s motorcycle revealed two sachets of suspected shabu hidden inside its compartment. This discovery led authorities to place the individual under arrest for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Proper inventory and documentation of the confiscated items—including the suspected drugs and the bladed weapon—were carried out in the presence of a barangay official and a media representative, in accordance with legal protocols.

Police say this incident is a testament to their commitment to swift and professional law enforcement, especially in volatile and potentially dangerous scenarios.

“We commend the vigilance of the public and encourage citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities. Our team is always ready to respond in under five minutes,” ZCPS11 said in an official statement.

The suspect remains in police custody as charges are being prepared for filing.
