ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities confiscated an estimated ₱2.86 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in an early morning operation along the shoreline of Barangay Maasin on July 24, 2025.

The Zamboanga City Police Office – City Tactical Operations Center (ZCPO-CTOC) flagged the suspicious activity at around 7:00 AM and immediately relayed the information to Police Station 8 (ZCPS 8). Responding swiftly, operatives discovered multiple abandoned boxes in the area.

Upon inspection, officers found fifty (50) master cases of assorted cigarettes believed to have been smuggled into the country. The contraband was secured and brought to ZCPS 8 for proper documentation and safekeeping.

Despite prompt response efforts, no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with the illicit shipment. Police are continuing their investigation.

In a statement, Police Regional Office 9 reiterated its strong commitment to curbing smuggling and other illegal activities that threaten public safety and economic integrity. Authorities urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and lawful trade in the region.
