Bukidnon & Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines — The Philippine Army and the Australian Army are currently in the thick of KASANGGA Exercise 2025, with joint military drills and morale-building activities taking place across key sites in Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City. The bilateral exercise underscores the growing defense partnership between the two nations, as it combines intensive combat simulations with confidence-building efforts like sports and cultural exchanges.
As of May 30, 2025, troops from both countries are engaged in the mid-phase of training at Camp Kibaritan in Malinao, Kalilangan, Bukidnon, where the focus has shifted to real-time testing of interoperability, operational readiness, and tactical proficiency. Among the major components of this phase are Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) simulations, designed to enhance soldiers’ ability to administer life-saving interventions during combat scenarios.
In addition to battlefield medical drills such as triage, casualty evacuation under fire, and treatment of critical injuries, troops are also undergoing small unit maneuvers, counter-ambush exercises, and tactical coordination in both urban and rural settings. These activities are closely monitored by the Mindanao Army Training Group (MATG) and evaluation teams from both armies to ensure training objectives are met and operational standards refined.
Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), emphasized the significance of the current exercise phase. “This is not just a demonstration of skills but a real-time test of how the forces work and fight together. KASANGGA Exercise 2025 enables our troops to learn, adapt, and build the teamwork needed for today’s security challenges,” he said.
Earlier in the week, on May 27, 2025, the 4th Infantry Division hosted its annual Sportsfest at Camp Evangelista, Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, further fostering camaraderie between Filipino and Australian troops. The event opened with a vibrant parade from Montalvan Hall to the 4ID Grandstand, featuring uniformed personnel, civilian staff, and special guests from the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
This year’s Sportsfest was marked by the enthusiastic participation of the ADF, who not only took part in the parade but also joined friendly matches in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, pickleball, and other team events. Participants were divided into color-coded teams, promoting friendly rivalry and unity among soldiers while reinforcing the bond of international military cooperation.
“This Sportsfest is not only a celebration of physical fitness and unity among our troops but also a symbol of the strong bond between our forces and our international partners,” said Major General Anayron Jr. “What matters most is how we respond to challenges—whether in the field or in friendly competition—with grace, dignity, and commitment to our values.”
Together, the KASANGGA Exercise 2025 and the 4ID Sportsfest highlight the multifaceted approach to military cooperation—combining combat readiness with people-centered activities that strengthen mutual trust, adaptability, and regional security. The joint exercise is set to continue in the coming days, with more advanced drills scheduled across Bukidnon, further showcasing the Philippines and Australia’s shared commitment to readiness, resilience, and strategic cooperation.
