Amas, Kidapawan City | May 18, 2025 — In a swift and coordinated police operation, the Cotabato Provincial Police Office (CPPO) successfully apprehended two Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) who escaped from the Magpet Municipal Police Station Custodial Facility on May 16, 2025.
The escape occurred while the detainees were awaiting medical attention. As soon as the incident was discovered, authorities from the Magpet Police Station launched a hot pursuit operation in close coordination with barangay officials, Barangay Police Action Teams (BPATs), and nearby police units. Despite initial setbacks, the team responded decisively and left no stone unturned in tracking down the fugitives.
By the morning of May 17, less than 24 hours after the escape, one of the fugitives was located and rearrested. The second escapee was apprehended later that afternoon through follow-up operations based on credible intelligence and thorough investigative work.
The escapees were identified as alias “Ron,” a 56-year-old farmer from Kidapawan City, and alias “Ato,” a 28-year-old farmer from Magpet, Cotabato. Both were facing charges of statutory rape. Alias “Ron” is linked to criminal case number CR-KID-8437-2024, while alias “Ato” is facing charges under docket number XII-06-CBU-INQ-250-00077.
CPPO Provincial Director, Police Colonel Gilberto B. Tuzon, commended the swift response and collaboration of law enforcement units and local stakeholders.
“While I commend the immediate recovery of the escapees, this incident reminds us that we must remain alert and continue strengthening our security measures.
