Davao Oriental – May 22, 2025 — Joy and pride filled the hearts of farmers, fishers, and livestock raisers from across Davao Oriental as they were honored by the Provincial Government during the “Arangkada sa Kalambuan: Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishery Synergy Expo 2025” held at the Oriental Prince Suites and Arcade Hotel.

Organized by the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) and the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office (PVET), the event served as a fitting tribute to the vital role of agriculture workers in strengthening the province’s economy, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

In line with the celebration of Farmers and Fishers Month, the event recognized the hardworking individuals and their contributions to rural growth. Among the highlights was the awarding of indemnity checks amounting to ₱88,205.10 from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation to 14 farmers from Banaybanay as financial assistance for their livelihood recovery.

Also honored were nine government employees who have served in the agriculture sector for over 30 years. Recognition was extended to provincial and local officials, national agencies, and other partners committed to advancing agricultural progress in the province.

Agri-Trade Fair Showcases Davao Oriental’s Local Products

Aside from recognition ceremonies, the event featured an Agri-Trade Fair Exhibit showcasing the talents and high-quality products of the province. Exhibits included processed goods, crops, and livestock products—many of which were locally produced and processed in Davao Oriental.

In a message delivered on behalf of Governor Niño Uy, Provincial Administrator Atty. Alejandro Aquino expressed deep gratitude to the farmers and fishers for their dedication.

“There is nothing impossible if we work together. The government remains steadfast in supporting our farmers and fishers to build a strong and sustainable agriculture sector,” Aquino stated.

₱2.15 Billion Proposed Budget for Agriculture in 2026

The event also brought good news for agriculture stakeholders. In the proposed 2026 annual budget, the agriculture sector is set to receive one of the largest allocations—amounting to ₱2.15 billion. The proposed funds will support:

  • Innovative and sustainable farming technologies
  • Increased production in crops, livestock, and fisheries
  • Establishment of livestock centers
  • Strengthening of agri-market systems
  • Expanded capacity-building and financial assistance programs

With this strong investment and good governance, Davao Oriental is poised to maintain its leadership in agriculture nationwide. Through continued collaboration among the Provincial Government, national agencies, and grassroots stakeholders, the province aims to ensure lasting prosperity and resilience for its people.
