SERGIO OSMEÑA, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE—In celebration of World Wildlife Day, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Piñan successfully released a Reticulated Python and a Philippine Box Turtle back into their natural habitat in Mt. Sinai on March 3. The rescued animals, rehabilitated under CENRO Piñan’s care, were deemed fit for release after a week of monitoring and treatment.
The initiative, led by CENRO Piñan under Dr. Adelaida R. Borja and in partnership with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Sergio Osmeña, reaffirmed their commitment to wildlife conservation and habitat protection. Local residents played a key role in rescuing the animals, underscoring the importance of community involvement in environmental efforts.
Continuing its advocacy, CENRO Piñan conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign in Barangay Nueva Vista on March 4. The event educated 65 residents on Republic Act 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, and emphasized the critical role of communities in safeguarding biodiversity.
With the theme “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,” the campaign highlighted the importance of sustained efforts in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation. By engaging local stakeholders, CENRO Piñan aims to foster greater awareness and active participation in protecting the region’s rich biodiversity.
