On the evening of March 1, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, a shooting incident occurred in Purok San Vicente, Barangay Labangal, General Santos City, leaving three individuals critically injured. The victims, identified as Ferjohn Pogoy, 34, an area manager for a bread company from Cannery, Polomolok, South Cotabato; Jay Cabahug, 24, from San Antonio, Davao City; and Rey Lominogue, 30, a resident of Poblacion 1, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, were renting a house in the area when unidentified assailants attacked them. All three sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Initial investigations reveal that Lominogue and Cabahug had been renting the house for about a month, while Pogoy was visiting them at the time of the incident. The three were reportedly consuming alcohol when the shooting occurred. Authorities are actively investigating the motive behind the attack and are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of gun-related violence in General Santos City. In January 2025, a beauty salon owner was fatally shot inside her establishment along Daproza Avenue. CCTV footage showed a masked gunman entering the salon and firing multiple shots before fleeing the scene.
The rise in such incidents has prompted local officials to call for stricter measures. General Santos City Representative Loreto Acharon recently advocated for legal reforms to regulate firearm ownership and dismantle private armed groups, aiming to curb election-related and other forms of violence.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities as investigations continue.
