KIDAPAWAN CITY – A district chief and an engineer from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – North Cotabato lost their lives in a shooting incident in Barangay Lanao, Kidapawan City, on Friday, March 14. Another companion was injured in the attack.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), the victims were identified as Mohammad Jalaluddin T. Mandangan, the 2nd District Chief Quality Assurance Officer of DPWH and a resident of Marawi City, and Engr. Benhur Piang, a resident of Malabang, Lanao del Sur. Both were declared dead at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that the victims were traveling in a white pickup truck when unidentified assailants opened fire on their vehicle. The driver, losing control of the vehicle due to the attack, crashed into an electric post.
Authorities confirmed that Mandangan and Piang succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while their unidentified companion sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The PNP has launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify the perpetrators responsible for the crime.
