A criminology intern student was shot in the arm after allegedly intervening in a heated argument between a couple along Perez Street in Población, Kidapawan City, on Saturday morning, August 8, 2026, triggering an immediate police manhunt that led to the arrest of the suspected gunman and the driver of the getaway motorcycle.
Based on the initial investigation, the incident reportedly began when the victim was near a carinderia and noticed a couple engaged in an argument across the street. The victim allegedly shouted at the couple, prompting the husband to confront him and question why he was intervening in their dispute. After the confrontation, the suspect reportedly left the area and went home, where he allegedly obtained a firearm before returning to the area. Upon his return, the suspect allegedly fired at the victim, hitting him in the arm, before fleeing aboard a motorcycle.
Responding Kidapawan City police immediately launched a manhunt operation following the shooting. Authorities subsequently arrested both the alleged gunman and the motorcycle driver suspected of serving as the getaway driver. The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, while police continued their investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the identities and respective involvement of those arrested.
