KIDAPAWAN CITY, COTABATO — A 63-year-old businesswoman was shot dead while attending to her sari-sari store in Barangay Manongol, Kidapawan City, on Thursday evening, August 27, 2026.
Authorities identified the victim as Genevieve Antolin Agamon, 63, a widow, businesswoman, and resident of the area.
Based on the initial investigation by the police, the shooting occurred at around 7:45 p.m. at the victim’s store in Purok 2A Mangosteen, Barangay Manongol.
Police said Agamon was inside the store when the unidentified gunman suddenly opened fire. She sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
After the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled on foot toward a forested portion of Barangay Manongol.
Personnel from Call 911 immediately responded and rushed Agamon to the Kidapawan City Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, the attending physician declared her dead on arrival.
Police investigators recovered one fired cartridge case believed to be from a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. The cartridge case will be submitted to the Cotabato Provincial Forensic Unit for ballistic examination and cross-matching to determine whether the firearm may have been used in other shooting incidents.
Agamon’s remains were subsequently brought to a funeral home in Barangay Lanao, Kidapawan City, for post-mortem examination and funeral arrangements.
Police pursuing suspect, motive
The identity and whereabouts of the gunman remain unknown as of the latest police report.
Authorities are conducting a dragnet operation while continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting, identify the assailant, and determine the motive.
Police are currently considering personal grudge as a possible motive, although investigators have yet to establish this conclusively.
The authorities have not released further details regarding any possible threats against the victim or whether she had previously reported receiving threats.
Investigators are expected to examine evidence gathered from the crime scene, including the recovered cartridge case, as well as information from possible witnesses and other leads that could help identify the shooter.
The killing has prompted an intensified police investigation in the area as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal attack and bring the person responsible to justice.
The case remains under investigation, and the motive and identity of the suspect have yet to be officially established.
