Kiamba, Sarangani – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12, through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Kiamba, extended technical assistance during a public hearing for the creation of a new ordinance focused on Kiamba Rivers. The event was held at the Kiamba Municipal Hall on March 19, bringing together local officials, environmental advocates, community members, and representatives from the DENR.
The proposed ordinance aims to strengthen the conservation and management of key waterways in Kiamba, specifically the Maligang River, Tual River, Tambilil River, and Lagundi River. These rivers are vital sources of livelihood, biodiversity, and natural resources for the local communities.
During the hearing, CENRO-Kiamba provided regulatory guidance on river watershed management by emphasizing key elements such as watershed characterization, vulnerability assessment, and the development of a comprehensive watershed management plan. These measures are designed to ensure the sustainable use and protection of the town’s water resources.
