Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay – March 21, 2025 – A coordinated anti-smuggling operation led by the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office (ZSBPPO), in partnership with the Bureau of Customs – Port of Zamboanga, Pagadian Satellite Office, and Olutanga Municipal Police Station, resulted in the arrest of a male suspect and the confiscation of smuggled cigarettes valued at PHP 912,900.00.
The intelligence-driven operation took place at Purok 4, Barangay Pulo Mabao, Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay at approximately 10:50 PM. Authorities apprehended the suspect and seized twelve (12) master cases of Canon Menthol Cigarettes and five (5) master cases of San Marino Cigarettes. Additionally, a gray motorized pump boat without markings, allegedly used for smuggling, was also confiscated.
The arrested suspect, along with the seized contraband and the pump boat, was taken to the Olutanga Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the full extent of the smuggling operation.
PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director of ZSBPPO, emphasized the significance of the successful operation in combating smuggling activities. He reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement agencies to securing the region’s borders and preventing the illegal entry of goods.
The police and customs authorities continue to strengthen their collaborative efforts to curb smuggling operations in the province and ensure that all imported goods comply with legal documentation and regulations. The crackdown on smuggling is seen as a crucial step in protecting the local economy from the adverse effects of illicit trade.
