Zamboanga City – March 20, 2025 – A coordinated effort between the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), Police Station 11, and Barangay Sto. Niño officials led to the successful rescue of a young mother and her two children from mendicancy in the city.
Acting on reports from concerned netizens, authorities launched an operation on the evening of March 20, rescuing a 19-year-old woman and her two minor children who had been begging on the streets. The family was immediately brought to the Barangay Hall of Sto. Niño for initial assessment and care. Upon further inquiry, they revealed that they were residents of Tres Marias, Barangay Baliwasan, within Zamboanga City.
Demonstrating a commitment to humanitarian action, the ZCPO and barangay officials coordinated efforts to ensure the safe return of the family to their home. They were also provided with necessary support to aid their reintegration into the community and prevent further instances of street begging.
This operation highlights the dedication of local authorities in safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly women and children. The ZCPO, in collaboration with barangay officials and vigilant citizens, continues to prioritize the protection and welfare of at-risk groups.
Authorities urge the public to remain watchful and report any incidents involving vulnerable individuals in distress. Such cooperation helps foster a safer and more compassionate community in Zamboanga City.
