Agusan del Norte – A coordinated police operation led to the arrest of a street-level drug suspect and the confiscation of illegal drugs, firearms, and ammunition during the election gun ban period in Carmen, Agusan del Norte.
The Carmen Municipal Police Station (MPS), in collaboration with the 1st Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st ADN PMFC), successfully carried out an anti-illegal drug and loose firearm operation on February 17, 2025. The operation, conducted through the implementation of a search warrant in Purok 8, Barangay San Agustin, resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old male suspect known as alias “Aarone.” The suspect, classified as a Street-Level Individual (SLI), is reportedly jobless and a resident of the said area.
PCOL April Mark C. Young, Provincial Director of the Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (ADNPPO), confirmed that the authorities seized suspected illegal drugs, locally known as “shabu,” along with a .38 caliber revolver and several rounds of ammunition. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Agusan del Norte (PDEA-ADN), ensuring compliance with legal procedures.
The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understands and is currently in the custody of the Carmen MPS. He faces charges for violations of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022, Republic Act 10591, which provides for the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition, and Section 261(q) of the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines concerning the gun ban.
The operation was conducted in the presence of witnesses, including representatives from the Department of Justice, the media, and local barangay officials, ensuring transparency and adherence to due process.
“This major accomplishment in addressing criminality and illegal drugs underscores Agusan del Norte’s commitment to keeping the province safe. We urge the public to report any violations of the gun ban or suspicious illegal activities to the nearest police station. Your vigilance and cooperation play a crucial role in our ongoing efforts against crime,” PCOL Young stated.
Authorities continue to intensify their crackdown on illegal activities, reinforcing the province’s stance against drugs and illegal firearms, especially during the election period.
