ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor John Dalipe has expressed his deep appreciation to Action Against Hunger (Fundacion Accion Contra El Hambre), a global humanitarian organization, for its ongoing interventions in Zamboanga City since 2013. The mayor conveyed his gratitude during a meeting with representatives of the organization at his office on Wednesday, February 12.
During the visit, the Action Against Hunger team presented their latest initiative, the Environmental Actions for Resilience and Transformative Humanitarian (EARTH) Project, which will be implemented in Zamboanga City. The project, undertaken in collaboration with CARE-ACCORD and with financial backing from the European Commission (EU), aims to enhance environmental sustainability and resilience within the city.
The EARTH Project integrates advocacy and implementation strategies focused on mangrove reforestation, solid waste management, water conservation, and sustainable livelihoods, all while working towards the restoration of ecosystems.
Deputy Country Director Philipp Danao led the Action Against Hunger delegation, which is in Zamboanga to finalize preparations for the project’s inception workshop scheduled for February 21 in Makati City. The initiative will benefit both Zamboanga City and Malabon City.
To ensure the successful execution of the EARTH Project, local government agencies such as the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the City Agriculture Office have been designated to work in close coordination with the project implementers.
Action Against Hunger has been actively supporting Zamboanga City since the 2013 Zamboanga siege, providing critical interventions for the welfare of local residents. The organization’s continued efforts in environmental conservation and community resilience remain integral to the city’s sustainable development.
