LUUK, Sulu – A groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 14, 2025, marking the commencement of construction for a new mosque in Camp AKA, Barangay Bual. The project is a generous donation from Saleh Muzahid Al-Anazi in collaboration with the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade, Southeast Asia Development Committee Foundation, Inc. (SADFI) – Revival of Islamic Heritage Society, State of Kuwait, and the Municipality of Luuk.

The planned mosque, measuring 10 meters by 15 meters, will serve as a vital place of worship for both military personnel and the local community, promoting unity and harmony in the area. The construction will be overseen by Engr. Bahroddeb Ambag, Project Engineer of SADFI-Pagadian City, with completion expected within three months.

The ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Col. Wilfredo Borgonia Jr, representing 1102nd Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino P. Delos Santos; Sheikh Salman M. Palwa, President of SADFI-Pagadian City; and Lt. Col. Karl Mark D. Namocatcat, Commander of the 545th Engineering Battalion.

Col. Borgonia highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “This mosque is a symbol of peace and unity, and we are grateful to our partners for their generosity and support. We believe that this project will not only provide a place of worship but also foster greater understanding and cooperation among the people of Sulu.”

The mosque’s construction is a significant milestone for the community, reinforcing efforts to promote peace and mutual respect among residents and military personnel.
