Dr. Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr., the esteemed Governor of Lanao del Sur, has been named one of the two Filipino laureates of the prestigious 2025 Gusi Peace Prize International. The Gusi Peace Prize, often referred to as Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize, recognizes individuals and organizations worldwide for their outstanding contributions to global peace and progress across various fields.
This year, a total of 18 distinguished laureates from different parts of the world have been selected for this prestigious honor, with Governor Adiong proudly representing the Philippines. His recognition underscores his significant contributions to governance, peace-building, and social development in the region, reinforcing his commitment to fostering harmony and prosperity within his province and beyond.
A Prestigious Recognition for Global Peace and Progress
Established to acknowledge those who dedicate their lives to humanitarian causes, the Gusi Peace Prize International is celebrated annually with grandeur. Presidential Proclamation No. 1476, signed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on March 17, 2008, officially designates every fourth Wednesday of November as “Gusi Peace Prize International Friendship Day,” emphasizing the global significance of the award.
The awarding ceremony is an elaborate affair, consisting of a series of pre-award and post-award events that highlight the importance of peace and unity. The festivities begin with an official gathering of all laureates, followed by a military wreath-laying parade at Rizal Park, a visit to Manila City Hall where the Mayor of Manila hands over the Golden Key of Manila, and a courtesy call to the President of the Philippines at Malacañang Palace. In addition, the event features folk music and cultural dance performances, a press conference at the National Press Club in Manila, and a farewell program in Tagaytay City.
A Celebration of Global Leaders and Visionaries
The final awarding ceremony, held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), attracts an esteemed audience of approximately 5,000 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, political leaders, business tycoons, celebrities, philanthropists, scientists, and other distinguished personalities from Asia, the Middle East, and other parts of the world. The presence of these influential figures further underscores the significance of the Gusi Peace Prize as a symbol of peace and excellence.
As one of the Filipino laureates of this year’s prestigious award, Governor Adiong joins an elite list of visionaries and changemakers dedicated to making the world a better place. His commitment to peace and development in Mindanao and his relentless efforts in promoting social welfare and governance reform have earned him this well-deserved recognition on the global stage.
The 2025 Gusi Peace Prize International not only honors individual achievements but also serves as a beacon of hope, reminding the world of the transformative power of leadership, compassion, and unity. Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr.’s inclusion in this distinguished roster of laureates is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the ideals of peace and progress for the Filipino people and the international community.
