MIDSAYAP, COTABATO – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Midsayap facilitated a Tree Replacement Activity led by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 12th 1st District under the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) 2014-01 on February 17, 2025, in Barangay Dado, Alamada, Cotabato.
The initiative aligns with the guidelines for the implementation of the DPWH-DENR-DSWD partnership on tree replacement projects, particularly in areas affected by road rehabilitation, slope collapses, and landslides. The activity underscores the government’s commitment to balancing infrastructure development with environmental conservation.
By selecting Brgy. Dado, located within the Libungan River Watershed Forest Reserve (LRWFR), as the planting site, the program strategically contributes to reforestation efforts in ecologically significant areas. This initiative is also in line with the objectives of the National Greening Program (NGP), which aims to restore forest cover and promote environmental sustainability.
The Tree Replacement Activity also enhances biodiversity by ensuring the planting of native tree species suited to the local climate and soil conditions. This approach strengthens the resilience of the newly reforested areas, creates habitats for wildlife, and improves the overall health of the ecosystem.
Government agencies, local stakeholders, and community members actively participated in the initiative, reinforcing the collaborative effort necessary to sustain environmental conservation efforts. Through such projects, authorities aim to mitigate the adverse effects of infrastructure development while promoting ecological balance and long-term environmental benefits.
