A total of 2,661 farmers in South Cotabato have received financial assistance from the provincial government to help mitigate the severe effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
Each affected farmer was provided with P2,000 in aid, sourced from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO).
The prolonged drought caused by El Niño last year significantly impacted crops and livelihoods, making government intervention crucial. The financial aid aims to provide relief to affected farmers struggling with production losses due to extreme heat.
The provincial government has assured the public of its continued commitment to assisting farmers in South Cotabato. Efforts are also underway to implement additional programs to support the agricultural sector, including crop insurance, alternative livelihood programs, and water conservation projects to help farmers cope with extreme weather conditions.
