Davao City is set to implement the Expanded Centenarian Act this year, providing cash incentives to senior citizens who reach the age milestones of 80, 85, 90, and 95. Qualified seniors will receive P10,000 as recognition of their contributions to society and to honor their lifetime achievements.
This initiative is in line with Republic Act 11982, which acknowledges the efforts of elderly citizens and expresses gratitude for their dedication and commitment.
Lorenzo Borja, Head of the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA), clarified that the incentives are exclusively for those who celebrate their 80th, 85th, 90th, or 95th birthdays in 2025. Those who turn 81, 82, 83, or other non-milestone ages this year are not eligible for the program.
“Kapag mag-birthday ka karon nga year dapat exactly 80 ka. Pero pag mag-birthday ka karon nga year mag-81 ka, dili na ka apil (You should be exactly 80 when you celebrate your birthday this year. If you are turning 81 this year, you are not eligible),” Borja stated.
To expedite the process, eligible senior citizens are encouraged to visit the OSCA and submit an application with the necessary documents. These include a full-body photo, a 2″ by 2″ ID photo, an OSCA ID, and a national ID. If a national ID is unavailable, seniors may present a driver’s license, birth certificate, Comelec ID, or SSS ID.
For bed-ridden seniors who cannot personally apply, family members may visit the OSCA on their behalf to complete the application. Borja assured that incentives would be delivered to the homes of immobile recipients.
“Kung earlier sila mag-file, mas maayo kay pag-birthday nila dala-on na sa ilahang balay (It’s better for them to file earlier so we can deliver the incentives to their home on their birthday),” he added.
Borja urged seniors to apply at least three months before their birthdays to ensure a smooth processing of their incentives. Dabawenyos may visit the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs located at the Legislative Building, SP G/F, Magallanes St., Davao City.
