Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur – February 3, 2025 – Another shooting incident has occurred in the town of Buluan, leaving one person dead despite the election gun ban currently in effect.
The victim, identified as Vhoris Sanday, also known as “Misuari,” a resident of Barangay Malangit, Pandag, Maguindanao del Sur, was shot and killed in Sitio Pagapasen, Buluan. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack or identify the suspects involved.
This latest killing adds to the growing number of violent incidents in the province, raising concerns over the effectiveness of the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) gun ban, which aims to curb election-related violence. The ban, implemented as part of security measures leading up to the 2025 national and local elections, prohibits the carrying of firearms by unauthorized individuals to prevent bloodshed and intimidation. However, despite these restrictions, a series of attacks and assassinations have continued to take place, with some linked to political rivalries and personal disputes.
Residents in Buluan and nearby areas have expressed fear over the rising violence, calling on law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts in enforcing the gun ban and ensuring public safety. The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have vowed to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
As the election season progresses, authorities remain on high alert, emphasizing the need for stricter security measures to prevent further bloodshed. Meanwhile, COMELEC officials urge the public to report any violations of the gun ban, emphasizing that stricter enforcement is necessary to deter further violence.
The investigation into Sanday’s killing is ongoing, with authorities looking into all possible angles, including political motives or personal conflicts. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
