BULUAN, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR — A 54-year-old man was gunned down in broad daylight by an unidentified assailant on Bangladesh Street, Poblacion, Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur, yesterday afternoon, January 13, 2025.
The victim, identified as Nogie Sulaiman Kamenza, a laborer from Sitio Apas-apas, Poblacion, was sitting on his motorcycle when the gunman approached and opened fire. Kamenza sustained gunshot wounds to his side, which proved fatal.
He was rushed to Buluan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
The attack marks the second shooting incident in Maguindanao del Sur on the second day of the election period, during which a strict gun ban is in effect. Earlier in the day, another man from South Cotabato was shot and killed in Rajah Buayan.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect and determine the type of firearm used in the attack. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the killings and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The spate of violence has raised concerns about public safety during the election season. Local officials and law enforcement agencies are urging residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities as they work to enforce the gun ban and maintain peace and order in the region.
