Cagayan de Oro City, Jan. 3, 2025 — Several individuals were apprehended and issued Ordinance Violation Receipts (OVRs) late Friday evening for drinking liquor in a public area in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City. The operation was conducted by the inspectorate team of the city’s Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB) following reports from concerned residents.
The team monitored the vicinity of the Aquilino Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center after receiving complaints about frequent drinking binges in the area, some involving minors. These activities reportedly led to littering and occasional brawls, disrupting the community and violating City Ordinance No. 5133, which prohibits the consumption of liquor in public spaces.
“We acted promptly on the reports from residents and found individuals engaging in activities that clearly violated the ordinance,” said a representative from the RCB. “We are committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining order in our city.”
Upon issuing the OVRs, the violators were instructed to disperse and return to their homes. The swift action by the RCB highlights the city’s commitment to enforcing laws that promote community safety and discipline.
Residents have expressed their support for the operation, emphasizing the need to curb such disturbances, especially those involving minors. The RCB has called on the public to remain vigilant and report similar incidents to authorities.
City Ordinance No. 5133, enacted to maintain order in public spaces, is part of broader efforts by local authorities to address issues related to alcohol consumption and its adverse effects on the community.
Further monitoring and enforcement activities are expected in the coming weeks to ensure compliance with the ordinance and prevent similar incidents.
