Pagadian City, Philippines – A coordinated effort by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) led to the successful interception of a large shipment of allegedly smuggled cigarettes valued at Php 11.1 million in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
On January 30, 2025, personnel from the 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion and the Pagadian City PNP conducted a joint checkpoint in Tiguma, Pagadian City. During a routine inspection, authorities uncovered the illicit shipment, which was promptly seized and secured.
The contraband has been turned over to the Bureau of Customs in Dao, Pagadian City, where it will undergo further investigation, documentation, and processing. Authorities are continuing their efforts to determine the source and intended distribution network of the smuggled goods.
