Laak, Davao de Oro, December 30, 2024 – A homemade 12-gauge shotgun with a magazine was voluntarily surrendered to the Laak Municipal Police Station on December 29, 2024, at around 3:15 PM.
The firearm, turned over by an anonymous individual, is now in the custody of the Laak Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. This act highlights the ongoing success of the station’s information dissemination campaigns, focusing on the risks and legal consequences of possessing undocumented firearms.
The surrender aligns with the directive of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) under Executive Order 70, which promotes a whole-of-nation approach in addressing issues in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).
Local authorities lauded the initiative as a step toward enhanced peace and security in the area. The police continue to urge other residents to surrender unregistered firearms to ensure compliance with the law and contribute to a safer community.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to fostering awareness and cooperation among the public in maintaining law and order, especially in remote communities,” the Laak MPS stated.
Efforts to engage residents through education and dialogue remain a key strategy in promoting public safety and curbing illegal firearm possession.
