Maco, Davao de Oro – A former member of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily turned over a .38 caliber revolver without a serial number to the Maco Municipal Police Station (MPS), in a move that local authorities say reflects growing public cooperation in the fight against loose firearms.

The surrender took place in Barangay Tagbaros, where police officers, acting on information from the former CTG member, retrieved the undocumented firearm from his residence. The initiative was part of the ongoing Kontra Boga campaign, a program spearheaded by the Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office through Maco MPS.

The Kontra Boga campaign aims to recover unregistered and illegally possessed firearms to prevent their use in criminal and insurgent activities. Authorities say the voluntary surrender is a clear indication that the campaign is gaining ground, thanks to the strong collaboration between the police and barangay officials.

“We recognize the courage and cooperation of the individual who came forward. This act contributes significantly to our shared goal of maintaining peace and order in our community,” said a Maco police official.

The surrendered firearm is now in the custody of Maco MPS for proper documentation and legal disposition, in accordance with existing procedures.

Local officials continue to encourage other residents to surrender unlicensed firearms, assuring them of a safe and lawful process, as part of efforts to build a safer Maco for all.
