A former pastor is now facing multiple charges after allegedly staging a robbery and threatening a victim with a gun at around 8:00 a.m. yesterday at the boundary of Barangay Nalin and Barangay Villarica in Midsayap, Cotabato.
According to Lt. Col. Arniel Melocotones, Midsayap Chief of Police, the victim was identified as Noel Montibles Samson, 26 years old, a salesman residing in Purok 8, Barangay Villarica, Midsayap. The suspect, Marvin Garcia Alvarez, 41 years old, a self-proclaimed former pastor from Purok Pag-asa, Rosary Heights VII, Cotabato City, was arrested following a swift police response.
The incident report states that Alvarez suddenly arrived at Samson’s residence and declared a robbery. Out of fear, the victim handed over ₱1,000 in cash. The suspect attempted to flee but was cornered by responding officers from the Midsayap Police.
Recovered from Alvarez were the stolen ₱1,000 bill and the weapon used in the crime, later identified as a pellet gun or toy firearm. Authorities confirmed that Alvarez is now detained at the Midsayap Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and legal proceedings.
In addition to robbery charges, Alvarez may also face a complaint for violating the election gun ban, which prohibits the possession and use of firearms during the election period.
