CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – The holiday season in Northern Mindanao has been characterized as peaceful and secure, according to Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10).
“The Christmas season has been marked as generally peaceful, with no significant untoward incidents reported across the region,” said PBGEN De Guzman in a statement.
The success of the celebration was largely attributed to the implementation of “Oplan Ligtas Paskuhan 2024,” a comprehensive security initiative aimed at enhancing public safety. The program prioritized increased police visibility and heightened security measures in crowded public areas, including malls, churches, and transportation hubs.
Based on data from the Regional Tactical Operating Center, only one minor firecracker-related injury was reported in Bukidnon. Importantly, no incidents were recorded during the traditional Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo across the region.
Despite the peaceful atmosphere, PBGEN De Guzman assured the public that security measures would remain in place as preparations for the New Year’s celebrations continue.
“Our police officers will remain deployed in key areas to maintain the peace and ensure the safety of everyone. The commitment of PRO10 to public security remains steadfast,” he emphasized.
The Regional Director also acknowledged the significant role of community cooperation in maintaining a peaceful celebration.
“The safety and security of our communities are best achieved when citizens and law enforcement work hand in hand. Let us continue to support each other as we move toward welcoming the New Year,” PBGEN De Guzman added.
The proactive measures under Oplan Ligtas Paskuhan and the continued vigilance of law enforcement and citizens alike have set a hopeful tone for the New Year in Northern Mindanao.
