The Provincial Government of Camiguin has achieved an extraordinary milestone by receiving the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for the third consecutive year. The recognition, awarded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), underscores the province’s unwavering commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, and efficient public service.
Camiguin stands tall as one of only 41 provinces nationwide to earn this esteemed distinction in 2024, affirming its dedication to delivering exemplary governance. Four of its municipalities—Mambajao, Mahinog, Sagay, and Guinsiliban—were also honored with the SGLG award, further showcasing the collective effort of the local government units (LGUs) in fostering progress and development.
The awards ceremony was held on Monday, December 9, at the Manila Hotel, where Governor XJ Romualdo accepted the accolade on behalf of the province. Expressing his gratitude, Gov. Romualdo emphasized that the achievement is a reflection of the hard work of the entire province.
“Kini na award dili lang para sa provincial government, but for the entire province and, of course, for the Camiguingnons. This award also reflects our commitment as leaders to work together in sustaining and continuing the progress in the province,” he said.
He also lauded the municipal mayors for their instrumental role in securing the award, highlighting their dedication to governance and service delivery.
“Of course, dili ni maabot sa province without the efforts of our municipal mayors. Ang commitment ni Mayor Yggy Romualdo, Mayor Ensoy Tan, Mayor Tata Abecia, ug Mayor Andal Uayan sa transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery has set a high standard for the entire province,” Gov. Romualdo added.
A Historic Win for Guinsiliban
This year’s recognition was particularly momentous for the Municipality of Guinsiliban, marking its first time as an SGLG awardee. The achievement underscores the LGU’s strides in meeting and exceeding governance standards.
The SGLG award is granted to LGUs that exhibit outstanding performance in areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, environmental management, and business-friendliness. It is regarded as a benchmark for good governance across the Philippines, inspiring other LGUs to uphold the principles of accountability and transparency.
Gov. Romualdo and the local chief executives of the award-winning municipalities have vowed to sustain their commitment to good governance. “This recognition is both an inspiration and a challenge to continuously serve the people of Camiguin with integrity and excellence,” the governor noted.
With this milestone, Camiguin cements its position as a model of effective governance, setting a high standard for provinces across the nation while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
