The inauguration ceremony was marked by vibrant festivities, starting with a blessing ceremony led by Rev. Fr. Filmore Calibo. Following this, Mayor Dalipe, joined by city officials and community representatives, cut the ceremonial ribbon, symbolizing the park’s readiness to welcome bikers and skaters.
Highlighting the event was an exhilarating competition where around 50 skateboarders and 15 BMX riders demonstrated their prowess. Each participant impressed the audience with jaw-dropping stunts and seamless tricks on the upgraded ramps and rails. Organizers ensured a safe and fair competition, further emphasizing the park’s purpose as a community-oriented space.
A Vision for Youth Empowerment
Mayor Dalipe, in his keynote address, emphasized the city’s commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for young Zamboangueños to express their passion.
“This rehabilitated BMX and Skate Park is more than just a venue for sports. It is a testament to our vision of empowering the youth and fostering an environment of inclusivity and camaraderie,” he shared.
The facility, open to the public every Monday to Saturday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, is free for all skateboarders and bikers. By keeping the space accessible, the city aims to encourage more individuals to take up these dynamic sports, contributing to a healthier and more active community.
A Community Effort
The event saw the presence of notable figures, including OIC Police City Director PCOL Kimberly Molitas, Executive Assistant Roy Albert Venus, Paseo del Mar in-charge Joey Wee, and representatives from the City Administrator’s Office. Their collective support underscores the importance of collaboration in initiatives that benefit the youth.
The rehabilitated park is expected to serve as a platform for local talent to thrive, with hopes of inspiring future competitions and events that will place Zamboanga City on the map of extreme sports. As the evening concluded with smiles and applause, the city celebrated not just the reopening of a facility but the beginning of a new chapter for its skateboarding and BMX communities.
This revitalized space is a step forward in nurturing the passion and potential of the city’s youth, giving them the tools to ride, skate, and soar into a brighter future.
