Personnel of the 2nd Sarangani Provincial Mobile Force Company (SPMFC) apprehended a male suspect, identified as “Nono,” 45, a security guard and resident of Purok Yakal, Barangay Nalus, Kiamba, for illegal possession of firearms during a routine checkpoint operation.
The arrest took place at Purok Yakal, Barangay Nalus, following a tip from a concerned citizen who alerted 2nd SPMFC personnel about a man carrying an illegal firearm while riding a black Honda TMX Supremo motorcycle. Officers manning the checkpoint stopped the suspect for verification upon receiving this information.
During the inspection, the suspect opened the motorcycle’s top box carrier, where officers observed a 9mm pistol and five live rounds of ammunition in plain view. The suspect could not present any legal documents for the firearm, leading to his immediate arrest.
The suspect and the confiscated evidence are now under the custody of the Kiamba Municipal Police Station for further documentation. A case for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, is being prepared for inquest proceedings against the suspect.
The Sarangani Police Provincial Office emphasized that checkpoint operations are part of their ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and crack down on the illegal possession of firearms in the region.
