Quezon, Bukidnon – Authorities successfully confiscated an estimated Php1,764,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes during a joint operation conducted on November 13, 2024.
The operation, led by the Quezon Municipal Police Station, resulted in the apprehension of two suspects identified as alias “Boboy,” 36, a resident of Zamboanga Sibugay, and alias “Julio,” 39, a resident of Pagadian City.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Nole F. Cano, Chief of the Quezon Municipal Police Station, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Regional Special Operation Unit 10, the Bukidnon Provincial Intelligence Unit, and the 2nd Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company.
Confiscated during the operation were 98 boxes of various brands of smuggled cigarettes found inside a van, amounting to a total street value of Php1,764,000.
The suspects are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10643, also known as the Graphic Health Warning Law, which prohibits the distribution and sale of non-compliant tobacco products.
Police Colonel Jovit L. Culaway, Provincial Director of the Bukidnon Police Office, emphasized the significance of the successful operation, stating, “The successful operation is a testament to the continued commitment of the law enforcement to combat illicit trade and protect public health. The PNP remains steadfast in its efforts to enforce anti-smuggling laws and ensure that those involved in illegal activities face the full extent of the law.”
Authorities reiterated their dedication to protecting public health and intensifying anti-smuggling campaigns to curb the proliferation of illegal goods in the region.
