Koronadal City, South Cotabato — A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to authorities on November 12, 2024, in Barangay Zone IV, Koronadal City, South Cotabato, as part of a coordinated campaign to address insurgency in the region.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Rey D. Egos, Force Commander of the 1st South Cotabato Provincial Mobile Force Company, identified the individual as “Ka Bongbong,” an active member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) associated with Guerilla Front ALIP of the Far South Mindanao Region. The surrender was attributed to intensified anti-insurgency efforts by the 1st and 2nd South Cotabato Provincial Mobile Force Companies, the South Cotabato Provincial Intelligence Unit, Regional Intelligence Division 12, Regional Special Operating Group 12, and Koronadal City Police Station.
Following his surrender, “Ka Bongbong” received immediate assistance, including cash aid and a sack of rice from the police. Additionally, PLtCol Egos assured that the former rebel would be eligible for further financial support through the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), designed to help former rebels reintegrate and start a new life.
The surrender marks another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to reduce insurgency in the region, offering a pathway for former rebels to peacefully return to society.
