Muslim Leaders Dialogue Promotes Peace and Unity in Davao de Oro

MABINI, Davao de Oro – Attaining peace is a shared responsibility, and the active participation of the Muslim community is vital in fostering harmony and justice for all. On November 16, 2024, the 1001st Infantry (Pag-asa) Brigade, in collaboration with the Office of Muslim Affairs of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Mabini, organized a Muslim Leaders Dialogue and Community Outreach Program with the theme: “Facilitating Interfaith Understanding and Collaboration: Fostering Peace, Unity, and Progress.”

The event, held in Brgy. Cuambog Centro, emphasized the importance of interfaith understanding in advancing the peace process. Educational kits were distributed to Madrasah school students from Kinder 1 to Grade 7, and a feeding program, led by the LGU’s Mobile Kitchen, provided meals to the community.

During the dialogue, key stakeholders, including Mayor Emerson Luego, Vice-Mayor Halina Muñoz, and 11 Jama’ah leaders, along with representatives from the Council of Women, Indigenous Peoples (IP), Madrasah Schools, and former MILF/MNLF members, discussed updates on the peace process and the current security situation in Mabini and the surrounding areas.

Colonel Gerry Besana, Deputy Brigade Commander, reaffirmed the Philippine Army’s commitment to sustaining Mabini’s peaceful and insurgency-free status. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with the Muslim community as a cornerstone of the peace-building efforts.

The program also included contributions to community welfare and education. Brigadier General Felix Ronnie Babac, Brigade Commander of the 1001st Infantry Brigade, led the donation of two sacks of rice for Madrasah schools and sports equipment, including volleyballs and basketballs, to engage and empower Muslim youth.

This initiative aligns with the government’s Normalization Program, emphasizing the peaceful integration of communities formerly affected by conflict. It underscores the enduring partnership between the military and local stakeholders in promoting peace and unity in Davao de Oro.

Through such endeavors, the 1001st Infantry Brigade continues to strengthen bonds with the Muslim community, fostering an environment of trust, cooperation, and progress. This shared vision sets the foundation for a future where peace and justice prevail for all.
