Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur – The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 9 inaugurated and blessed a new Php10 million Bio-Secured Swine Housing Facility in Barangay Acad on November 11, 2024. This facility, a key component of the Community-Based Swine Production Clustering Project, was handed over under the DA’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program, which aims to revitalize the local swine industry post-African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak.

The bio-secured facility is designed to promote a safer environment for swine, reducing risks from infectious diseases, particularly ASF, which had devastating effects on the local swine industry in recent years. The Community-Based Swine Production Clustering Project, under the Livestock Program, seeks to introduce robust measures to support local hog farmers by implementing repopulation strategies. These strategies ensure a stable, high-quality supply of pork for communities and support economic recovery within the livestock sector.
According to officials, this facility is expected to significantly enhance the local swine industry’s capacity to produce pork and meet market demands, benefitting both the farmers and the broader community in Zamboanga del Sur.
The inauguration was marked by the facility’s formal blessing, symbolizing a fresh start and renewed hope for sustainable swine production in the region.
