Mayor Dalipe Emphasizes Commitment to Sustainable Water Resources at VSI Well Exploration Ceremony

Zamboanga City, November 7, 2024 — Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable water resources at the groundbreaking of the Well Exploration and Testing Project at Filinvest Villa San Ignacio (VSI) in Barangay Lunzuran. The project, spearheaded by the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) in partnership with Filinvest Land Inc., aims to address water scarcity challenges and establish a more reliable water supply for VSI’s 176 households.

Represented by City Administrator Atty. Wendel Sotto, Mayor Dalipe stressed the importance of safeguarding water resources to sustain the city’s growth and well-being. “Water, more than a resource, is the lifeblood of our daily lives. It sustains our homes, our businesses, our schools, and every industry in this city. It is essential for the health and well-being of every Zamboangueño,” he stated, underscoring his administration’s resolve to secure sustainable water solutions for all.

The initiative addresses a pressing need for alternative water sources as VSI’s existing groundwater supply has reached its capacity in terms of both flow rate and quality. The exploration project includes a thorough study of potential groundwater resources, drilling and geological assessments, and will follow all infrastructure and regulatory standards to ensure sustainability.

Mayor Dalipe also outlined his administration’s broader vision for water security city-wide, saying, “The Dalipe administration’s vision is not just for VSI but for the entire city. We are exhausting every effort to make sure that no one will have to face the challenge of water scarcity. We have turned over several infrastructures, and we will continue to invest in infrastructures, technologies, and systems needed to provide safe and reliable water to every home in every barangay.”

The groundbreaking event featured a blessing ceremony led by Rev. Fr. Ho Sy Nam and included a symbolic switch-on of the Well Drilling Exploration, which marks the start of a targeted month-long project set to be completed by December 7, 2024. This timeline underscores the commitment of both the city and ZCWD to sustainable growth and reliable water resources for all residents.

The exploration project not only reinforces the city’s commitment to water security but also marks a significant step toward supporting the area’s growing demand. With projects like these, the Dalipe administration aims to ensure that no resident will have to endure water scarcity, cementing a legacy of foresight and sustainable infrastructure for Zamboanga City.
