Grenade Found Outside Residence of Acting Mayor in Cotabato City

Cotabato City, Philippines – Authorities recovered a grenade early morning of November 17, 2024, outside the home of Mayor Duma Madi Mascod, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Mayor of Kadayangan in the Special Geographic Area (SGA) under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The grenade was discovered around 7:00 a.m. along 6th Street, Rosary Heights 5, Cotabato City. According to Cotabato City Police Director Col. Michael John Mangahis, the explosive device did not detonate and was reported by a passerby who noticed it near the residence gate.

Mayor Mascod, who is seeking re-election as Kadayangan mayor, was not at his residence when the grenade was found. Police are actively investigating the incident, and Col. Mangahis revealed that political motives are being considered as a possible cause.

The discovery has raised concerns about safety and security during the election period. Local police have since heightened security measures to prevent similar threats.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement. Updates on the investigation will follow as more information becomes available.
